Bachchan's character, Arjun Singh, is brought in to meet the city slicker Ranjit Singh, played by the actor Ranjeet (in the red jacket). Arjun Singh is an honest, upstanding and well-educated young man, but he gives the impression that he's not sophisticated due to his rural roots. When Ranjit Singh asks him if he knows how to speak in English, Arjun Singh breaks out with these by-now immortal lines.
"I can walk English, I can talk English, I can laugh English, because English is a very funny language."
It set me wondering, why don't we have a nationwide movement to help people who're highly educated but are not confident about speaking in English? All we would need to do is commit to speaking in English with one person via ZOOM enough number of times that they feel confident about speaking in the language.
It bears thinking about. I wonder...
